| Gary Burns is renowned for his cleverly assembled ensemble casts. waydowntown features an ensemble of more than a dozen actors. The story revolves around four office underlings, Tom, Sandra, Randy and Curt, who each wager a month's salary to see who can stay indoors the longest. Casting the four bettors was a priority, but equally important was creating the perfect combination of players to round out the quirky collection of downtown inhabitants, from a kleptomaniac CEO to a peeping tom security guard.
"When you write a script yourself, you always have a fixed idea of who the characters will be, but then you sit through casting sessions and that all changes. Suddenly the people you're looking at are those characters. Casting is everything," says Burns. |
